Super Easy Spicy Tomato Chutney/Tomato Kara Chutney

Tomato Spicy/kara Chutney is another easy to make chutney. It is a chutney served in the restaurants with Idli, Dosa etc and you will be surprised how it can be made in few minutes!

Ingredients

Oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard (Rai) – 1 tsp

Curry Leaves – from 3 strands (finely chopped)

Red Chilli Powder – 2 heaped tsp

Tomato (big) – 3 (crushed)

Asafoetida (Hing) – 1/8 tsp

Sugar – ½ tsp

Besan (Gram Flour) – 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Method

Heat the oil in a pan. Add Mustard and Urad Dal one after another. Add Curry Leaves.

When the curry leaves become crispy, add the Chilli Powder and Hing. Stir it immediately.

Add the crushed Tomatoes immediately else the chilli will burn. Stir it for 4 to 5 minutes. And then simmer for another 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in between.

Add Sugar and Salt. Continue cooking till the oil starts separating.

Add ½ cup of water to the Gram Flour in a small vessel and mix without any lump, Add this to the Chutney and cook for a couple of minutes more.

Done!

Goes great with soft dosas. 🙂
