Green Peanuts are nothing but the fresh Ground Nuts from the farm before they are dried or processed further. They are easily available in the market. We can boil them and eat them. We can also boil them in a pressure cooker to save time. It is a wonderful snack – soft and salty.
Ingredients:
Fresh Green Peanuts – 500 Gms
Water – as required
Salt – 4 tbsp
Method:
Soak the raw Peanuts in water for an hour. Since the whole raw Peanuts are likely to float in the water, keep a plate on the top so that it keeps the Ground Nuts immersed in the water.
After an hour of soaking, drain the water. Rinse the Ground Nuts well so that no mud is sticking to them. Remove any twigs etc.
Take the cleaned Peanuts in a pressure cooker.
Add Salt. Add water to cover the Peanuts completely.
Pressure cook them for 5 to 6 whistles in medium flame and then in low flame for 15 to 20 minutes. You can cook them for more time of you want the nuts to become mushy. Switch off the flame and allow the steam pressure to drop.
Open the lid. Break the shell of one or two nuts and check that the peanuts inside the shell are cooked as per your liking. Check Salt also. If necessary, add little more Salt and cook for one or two whistles more.
Drain the water. Serve the Peanuts in a big bowl to the family.
Let each family member take the peanuts, break the shell and enjoy the cooked Nuts inside. It is a great fun in a family get together.
Note:
If you do not get the farm fresh whole peanuts, you can use the dried ones also. Soak them in water over night and then pressure cook them with required water and Salt for 8 to 10 whistles over medium flame and continue for another 40 to 50 minutes in low flame.
