Who doesn’t crave for fried items from time to time? If you are going to fry something, why not do it with something healthy? This item is a famous street food item in India. It goes well with cilantro chutney and a rainy day J
Ingredients:
Yellow moong dal: 1 cup
Onion: 1 (finely chopped)
Green chillies: 2 (finely chopped)
Curry leaves: 20 leaves (finely chopped)
Asafoetida powder: 1/8th tsp
Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
Turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak moong dal for 2 hours.
Drain the water and grind to a coarse paste with very little water. Transfer to a bowl.
Add asafoetida powder, salt and turmeric and mix well. The batter needs to be mixed vigorously so that it gets light and fluffy. If it doesn’t get fluffy, add a pinch of baking soda.
Add all the other ingredients and mix well.
Heat oil. Add very little batter to see if it rises immediately to the top. It’s one of the best ways to check if the oil is hot enough. Fry small balls of the batter.
Done!
