Chowli bhaji/Siru keerai/Amarhath poriyal..all the names mean only one yummy and nutritious dish. This innocent looking green leafy vegetable is packed full of fibers. It is an excellent addition to the diet for women reaching menopause or for kids starting on solid foods.
Ingredients:
Fenugreek leaves: 1 bunch
Onion (finely chopped): 1
Mustard seeds: ½ tsp
Cumin seeds: ½ tsp
Split black gram (urad dal): ½ tsp
Curry leaves: 10
Whole dry red chilies: 2
Oil: 2 tsp
Salt to taste
To grind:
Grated coconut: 2 tbsp
Dry red chilies: 2
Cumin seeds: ¼ tsp
Garlic: 2 cloves
Method:
Wash the green leafy vegetable and chop it finely.
Grind all the ingredients listed under “grind” coarsely.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin. Let it splutter. Then add urad dal, curry leaves and whole red chilies.
After a minute, add onions and sauté till translucent.
Then add the chopped fenugreek leaves, mix and cover and cook for 2 minutes. Mix again and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Add salt and cook till the leaves become soft. Then add the ground paste and cook for 2 minutes.
Done!
It goes well with sambhar/dal rice or roti.
