This chutney goes well with urad dal rice and will be a very unique combination that you will try!
Ingredients:
Sesame seed (ellu or til): 1 tbsp
Black urad dal: 1 tbsp
Dry red chillies: 4
Asafoetida: ¼ tsp
Grated coconut: 3 tbsp
Tamarind: as per taste
Salt to taste
Oil: ½ tsp
Method:
Dry roast the sesame seeds.
Heat oil. Add the red chillies and dry roast it for 5 mins on a medium flame.
Add black urad dal and fry it till pink.
Add the grated coconut and asafoetida.
When the coconut turns light brown, take it off the heat and let this cool.
Grind all the ingredients except sesame seeds without water.
Then and the sesame seeds and grind with very little water.
Done!
You can add pinch of sugar to balance out the nuttiness of the sesame seeds. I have used black urad dal but it can be swapped out for white urad dal also.
