Everyone loves the unique taste of guava which can be enjoyed very sweet or in its almost unripe form with salt. But have you tried to make a curry with this yummy fruit? Follow the recipe below for a sweet, tangy and spicy curry with a twist.
Ingredients
Guava/Peru/Amrut: 2 big
Green chilli: 2 slit
Cashew: 10
Raisins: 1 tbsp
Coriander (dhania) pd: 1 tbsp
Turmeric (Haldi) pd: 1 pinch
Sugar: ½ to 1 tsp
Curd: 2 tbsp
Cilantro: 1 tbsp chopped
Salt to taste
To temper
Oil and ghee: 2 tsp
Cinnamon (Dalchini): 2”
Cloves (lavang): 4
Bay leaves (tej patta): 1
Cumin seeds (Jeera): ½ tsp
Method
Cut the guava into small pieces. Remove the seeds as much as possible.
Heat ghee and oil in a pan. Add all the ingredients listed under “to temper”.
Add the chopped guava pieces and mix well.
Add chili pd, coriander pd, turmeric pd and salt.
Stir cook for couple of mins and add 1 cup of water. Mix and cover and cook for 5 mins on slow to medium heat.
Add sugar, cashews, raisins, slit green chilies and curd. Mix and cover and cook for couple of mins.
The guava should become soft but not mushy. Add cilantro.
Done!
It goes well with roti, naan, chapatti or rice.
Note: Select the semi ripe guavas for this recipe. This way they will get soft without getting mushy.
