Raw Jackfruit can be used to make very tasty dishes. Let us see how to make a Poriyal with raw Jackfruit. In the market, we can get this raw Jackfruit. They cut a whole Jackfruit and sell in pieces to our requirement. They cut the thorny outer skin before giving it to you. Even then, we will have to cut the skin further to a great extent since the skin will not get cooked easily. Separate the seeds. Cut the remaining Jackfruit evenly into fine pieces. Remove the plastic like skin from the seeds and cut the seeds also into fine pieces. Apply Oil in the palms to avoid stickiness and also stain to the hands.
Ingredients:
To cook Palakkai (Raw Jackfruit):
Raw Jackfruit – 600 Gms (as prepared above)
Salt – ¼ tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 pinch
Water – 3 to 4 tbsp
To grind:
Grated Coconut – ½ cup
Green Chillies – 3 to 4
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Onion – ¼ piece
For Tempering:
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tbsp
Large Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Curry Leaves – from 1 twig
Method:
Cook the Palakkai in a pressure cooker with ¼ tsp of Salt and a pinch of Salt and 3 to 4 tbsp of water for two to three whistles till the Palakkai is cooked well.
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard Seeds. When they sizzle, add Urad Dal. Stir for a few seconds. Add Onions and Curry Leaves. Sauté the Onion pink.
Add the cooked Palakkai. Crush the ingredients given under “To grind” together coarsely and add. Mix well. Adjust Salt, if required and mix. Cover with a lid and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes in low flame stirring at intervals.
Transfer to a serving bowl. I
