Condensed milk is used in many sweet dishes. Instead of buying the overpriced canned condensed milk, we can make it easily at home. This way you can also make sure there are no fillers or preservatives as well. Ingredients
Full Fat Milk – 5 cups
Sugar – 1 cup
Unsalted Butter – 1 spoon
Method
Take the Milk in a broad pan and start boiling it.
When it starts boiling, add the Sugar and reduce the flame to medium.
Keep stirring frequently. In another 20 to 25 minutes, it starts thickening. Milk will froth up and try to boil over. Do not allow to boil over. Keep stirring right up to the bottom.
After another 15 to 20 minutes, the milk changes into a very vibrant ivory color.
The moisture evaporates away and the milk attains the condensed milk consistency.
Add Butter, mix well and switch off the flame.
Done!
Allow the contents to cool down to room temperature. Transfer it to an air tight container and store it in the refrigerator.
Notes:
- The milk should be stirred right up to the bottom; else the Sugar will caramelize.
- If stirring is not done frequently, the condensed milk will not get the silky texture.
- Do not overcook after attaining the Condensed Milk consistency. Else it will turn solid once it cools down.
