Moong Dal Tiffin Sambar is one of the Sambar recipe which goes very well with Idlis, Dosas etc. If this Sambar is prepared in a pressure cooker directly, it takes just a few minutes for preparation. It can be pressure cooked directly with required vegetables. This Sambar is also called as golden Sambar due to its color.
Ingredients
Oil – 2 tbsp
Jeera (Cumin) Seed – 1 tsp
Mustard (Rai) – ¾ tsp
Black Gram Lentil (Urad Dal) – 1 tsp
Green Chilli – 3 (Chopped)
Red Chilli – 2 (Broken)
Asafoetida (Hing) – ¼ tsp
Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Tomatoes – 2 (finely chopped)
Potato (medium sized) – 1 (finely chopped)
Moong Dal (Pasi paruppu/Green Gram Lentil) – ½ cup
Tamarind Pulp – ½ tsp
Cilantro (Dhania Leaves) – 1 ½ tbsp (finely chopped)
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat the Oil in a pressure cooker. Add Jeera and Mustard. When it crackles, add Urad Dal, Red Chilli, Green Chilli and Hing; Sauté for 30 seconds.
Add Curry Leaves and Onion. Stir cook till the Onion becomes pink.
Add Tomatoes and cook for a couple of minutes.
Add Potatoes, salt and the Moong Dal.
Add 2 cups of water. Mix and Pressure Cook it for 3 to 4 whistles.
When the steam releases on its own, open the lid. Add Tamarind Juice and Dhania. Adjust Salt and water, if required. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
Transfer to a serving bowl.
Done!
Serve hot with Idlis, Dosas etc.
Note:
One Brinjal (cut into pieces) and ½ a piece of Carrot (chopped) can be added while pressure cooking. It will add to the taste.
