Rice Rawa Kozhukattai is another South Indian Breakfast recipe. It is generally prepared during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. This recipe needs fresh Coconut (not dried one). If frozen grated Coconut is used, thaw it before use.
Ingredients:
Rice Rawa (Idli Rawa) – 1 cup
Water -2 cups
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard (Rai) – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Chana Dal (Bengal Gram) – ½ tsp
Asafoetida – one small pinch
Curry Leaves – from 1 twig
Green Chilli (chopped) – 1 or 2
Ginger grated – 1tsp
Grated Coconut – ¼ cup
Salt to taste
Method
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add the Mustard Seed, Urad Dal, Chana Dal, Curry Leaves and Asafoetida. Stir for a minute in medium flame. Add grated Ginger and Green Chilli. Sauté for a second.
Add water, Salt and Coconut. Bring them to a boil.
Add Rice Rawa.
Keep mixing till the mixture leaves the side of the pan and becomes a thick lump.
Transfer it to a bowl. Allow to cool.
Once it cools down, make Kozhukattai shaped balls (see picture).
Place them in a Idli plate and steam for 10 minutes.
Serve with Chutney.
