Soya Chunk Manchurian is a delicious vegetarian appetizer which is a very quick dish to make. It can be made less than 10 minutes. Soya Chunk Manchurian can be made in two varieties – a dry one which is served as a starter and a gravy type which can be served as a side dish with fried rice or noodles etc. We will see how to make the dry variety which can be served as an appetizer.
Ingredients:
Soya Chunks (Mini Chunk or Bigger Chunk) – 1 cup
Yogurt – 2 tbsp
Corn Flour – 1 tsp
Maida (All Purpose Flour) – ¾ tbsp
Red Chilli Powder – ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
For Manchurian:
Oil – 1 tbsp
Ginger – 1 inch long (finely chopped)
Finely chopped Garlic – 1 tbsp
Spring Onion Bulb – 1
Finely chopped Spring Onion Bulb –
Capsicum – ½ (chopped)
Soya Sauce – 1 tbsp (dark)
Red Chilli Sauce – 1 tsp
Vinegar – ½ tsp
Tomato Sauce – 1 tbsp
Crushed Black Pepper – ½ tsp
Corn Flour – 2 tsp
Method:
Start boiling water in a vessel .Add the Soya Chunks to the boiling water with ½ tsp of Salt. When the water comes to rolling boil, switch off the flame. Drain the water. Pour chilled water over the Soya Chunks so that it does not get cooked further. Squeeze out the water.
Add 2 tbsp of water to the Yogurt and mix well. Add it to the Soya Chucks. Mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes. (Some People do not like the odour of Soya Chunks. Marinating the Soya Chunks in Yogurt removes the odour from it. If the odour is acceptable, this step can be skipped)
After 15 minutes, squeeze the Soya and take it another bowl. Add Maida, Corn Flour, Red Chilli Powder and Salt. Mix well till all the Soya Chunks are coated evenly.
Heat 2 tbsp of Oil in a broad pan. Add the Soya chunks, Shallow fry the Soya Chunks in medium flame till all the chunks become crispy. Transfer to a plate.
Let us start making the dry Manchurian.
Heat a tbsp of Oil. Add finely chopped Ginger and Garlic. Sauté for a minute in medium flame. Add the sliced Spring Onion bulb and also the finely chopped Spring Onion. Stir cook for a couple of minutes. Add Capsicum and cook for a minute. Add Soya Sauce, Red Chilli Sauce, Vinegar and Tomato Sauce. Mix well. Add Salt and crushed Black Pepper. Add Corn flour after mixing it with little water.. Mix well. Cook for a couple of minutes. Now, add the roasted Soya Chunks. Mix well and cook for another minutes. The tasty dry Soya Manchurian is ready.
Note:
- Add the roasted Soya Chunks just before you are ready to serve.
- You can make it a gravy type by adding a tbsp of Corn Flour to ½ to 1 cup of water (depending on how you want the consistency of the gravy) instead of just mixing a little water and adding.
