Mullangi (Radish) is used in making many dishes – Mullangi Sambar, Mullangi Pickle, Mullangi Paratha and also many curries. As we know, Radish is a root vegetable and its juice has many health benefits. It is said to be especially good in treating kidney stones. It also acts as a detoxifier. Here we will see how to make a stir fried dish with this Radish.
Ingredients:
Medium sized Radish (Muli / Mullangi) – 2
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Chana Dal – 1 tbsp
Onion (medium sized) – 1 (finely chopped)
Green Chilli – 3 (finely chopped)
Curry Leaves – from 1 twig
Grated Ginger – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 pinch
Grated Coconut – ¼ cup
Finely chopped Coriander Leaves – 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard Seeds, Urad Dal and Channa Dal.
When the Mustard starts crackling, add the Onion, Grated Ginger, Green Chillies and Curry Leaves. Stir fry them till the Onion becomes translucent.
Add the chopped Radish, Turmeric Powder and Salt. Mix well. Stir cook for a minute. Cover the pan amd simmer for 5 to 6 minutes in low flame – stirring in between. Check whether the Radish is cooked. If not, sprinkle 2 to 3 tbsp of water and continue cooking till the Radish is done and is dry.
Add the grated Coconut. Mix well. Continue cooking for a couple of minutes.
Add the Coriander leaves.
Mix and serve with Sambar Rice, Rasam Rice etc.
