Aloo Tikki is a very popular snack. It is prepared with boiled and smashed Potatoes spiced with Green Chillies, Chilli Powder etc. This Tikki can be deep fried or shallow fried depending on your preference. You can bake them also if you do not like to fry them. I am giving the shallow fried recipe here.
This Tikki can also be sandwiched in between bread slices to make a tasty Sandwich.
Ingredients:
Potatoes (Medium sized) – 4
Green Chilies – 2 (finely chopped) – 2
Red Chilli Powder – ¼ tsp
Amchur Powder (Dry Mango Powder) – ¼ tsp or Lemon Juice
Grated Ginger – 1 tsp
Garam Masala – ¼ tsp
Corn Flour or Rice Flour -1 ½ tbsp
Dry Bread Crumbs – 3 to 4 tbsp or as required
Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves – ¼ cup Salt to taste
Oil – 3 to 4 tbsp or as required
Method:
Boil the Potatoes in a pressure cooker. Cool them. Peel the skin and discard.
Grate or mash the Potatoes without any lump. Take the mashed or grated Potatoes in a mixing bowl. Add all the ingredients except bread crumbs. Mix them well. Check Salt and adjust.
Add the bread crumbs now. Mix well. If you feel that the mixture is too soft to make the Tikki, add some more bread crumbs.
Mix and mash well till the dough turns soft and non-sticky.
Grease your hands with Oil. Take a small portion of the dough and shape into Tikkis. You will be able to make 7 to 8 Tikkis.
Coat the Tikkis with dry bread crumbs.
Heat 2 tbsp of Oil in a pan or Tawa. Place the Tikkis on it and fry for a minute or till the base of the Tikki turns golden brown.
Flip them gently and allow the other side also to get fried golden brown. Flip them two or three times and fry so that both sides get fried evenly.
Serve with Tomato Sauce or Coriander Chutney or Sweet Yogurt etc with a cup of tea or coffee etc.
You can make a Frankies or sandwich using these Tikkis as well.
Note:
This can be prepared as a dish for people who fast during certain occasions and do not use rice etc on that day. Use Arrow Root Flour or water chestnut flour instead of Rice Flour or Corn flour on those occasions. Use Rock Salt instead of regular salt.
