Plantain stir fry/ Vazhakkai Puttu/ Kache Kele Ka Subzi

Stir Fried Elephant Yam/ Suran Ki Sabzi/ Senai Kizhangu Poriyal

Plantain stir fry or Kache Kele Ka Subzi is a simple recipe which is made with raw Banana. You may never have tasted plantains this way 🙂 Give this a try today!

Ingredients

Raw Plantain – 2

Oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard – ½ tsp

Black Gram (Urad Dal) – ¾ tsp

Bengal Gram (Chana Dal) – ¾ tsp

Onion – 1 (finely chopped)

Green Chilli – 3 (finely chopped)

Curry Leaves – from 1 twig

Grated Coconut – 3 tbsp

Salt to taste

Chopped Cilantro (Dhania Leaves) – 1 tbsp

Method

Cut off the stem of the Plantain and discard.

Pressure cook it with water for just a whistle. The Plantain should become soft, not mushy.

 

When it cools down, peel off the skin and discard the skin. Grate the Plantain in a grater with big holes.

Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard and allow it to crackle. Add Urad Dal and Chenna Dal. Stir for 30 seconds.

Add Green Chillies, Onion and Curry Leaves. Stir fry them till the Onion becomes translucent.

Add the grated Plantain, Salt and Grated Coconut and stir cook for a couple of minutes in low flame. Adjust Salt.

Add Cilantro and mix.

Done!

Notes:

Onion can be avoided if required.

½ tsp of Lemon Juice can also be added before serving if required.
