Street Food has its own attraction and fan following. If you are in the metro cities or some other big city in India, you can find places which are famous for the street food of that city or region. And Mumbai City has its own favorite street foods like Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri, Dosa, Falooda etc. What we will see today is Masala Pav – a variant in the various Pav Varieties. You can make this at home and enjoy the taste of a street food with the family.
Ingredients:
Pav (Indian Bun) – 6
Butter – 2 tbsp
Onion (Large) – 2 (finely chopped)
Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Capsicum – 2 (200 Gms – finely chopped)
Tomato – Medium – 8 (crush and keep)
Pav Bhaji Masala Powder – 1 tbsp
Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder – 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Water – ¼ cup
Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves – 4 tbsp
Butter – to toast the Pav
Method:
Take the Chilli Powder and Pav Bhaji Masala in a bowl.
Add water and mix well.
Heat the butter in a broad pan. Sauté the chopped Onion in it for 30 to 40 seconds.
Add Garlic Paste and cook till the raw flavor of Garlic goes away and the Onion is cooked well.
Add Capsicum and continue stir fry for 2 minutes.
Add the crushed Tomato and stir fry till they become soft.
Add 1/4 cup of water. Mix well. Add Salt and the chili-pav bhaji masala powder. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes till the gravy becomes little thick.
Mash the gravy with a masher.
Add cilantro. Mix and transfer this gravy to a bowl.
In the same pan, add little butter. When it melts, add 1 tsp of the gravy.
Slit a Pav and toast the Pav in it.
Spread some gravy inside the toasted Bun. Fold it .Prepare the remaining Pav also in the same way.
Transfer the Pav to a serving plate.
Sprinkle some Onions and Coriander leaves above them. Serve with extra Butter, Onion and Lemon wedges.
You can also add grated Cheese over the Masala. Kids would love it.
