Kids would love this recipe of bread preparation. This is also a good combination with evening tea and can be prepared with left over bread.
Ingredients:
Bread Slices- 6
Ghee or Butter– ¾ tsp + ¾ tsp
Butter-¾ tsp
Oil-1tbsp
Mustard (Rai) – ½ tsp
Skinned and splitted Black Gram (Urad Dal) – 1 tsp
Onion, Sliced- 1
Green Chilli- 1 (finely chopped)
Curry Leaf- 1 spring
Tomato- 3 to 4 (finely chopped)
Carrot (chopped in tiny cubes) – 2tbsp
Green peas/Vantaa – 2 tbsp. ((Frozen or Fresh)
Sambar Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder- ¼ tsp
Cilantro Leaves – 1tbsp (Finely chopped)
Salt to taste
Preparation:
Cut the bread slices into small cubes.
Heat ¾ tsp of butter in a pan and spread it uniformly all over the pan.
Add the bread cubes and stir or toss it often. Keep low flame.
Continue till it becomes little crisp and transfer to a bowl.
In the same pan, heat oil, add Mustard and allow it to crackle. Add Urad Dal and allow it to become a little brown (30 seconds).
Add Onion, Green Chilli and curry leaves.
Allow the Onion to become translucent. Add Tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes. Keep stirring occasionally.
Add Carrot and Green Peas. Mix well.
Add Sambar Powder, Turmeric Powder and Salt.
Mix well. Add ¼ cup of water, mix and cover it and cook for 5 minutes.
Check salt and add more, if required.
Add the toasted bread pieces.
Then add Cilantro leaves.
Add ¾ tsp of butter (or Ghee). Mix well till the spices spread uniformly all over the bread pieces.
Remove and serve or pack it for lunch.
Done!
Note: If you do not have sambhar powder, you can substitute it for coriander+cumin powder.
