Broad Beans Potato Curry/ Avarakkai Urulai Kizhangu Poriyal

Broad beans are a very healthy vegetable with lot of fiber contents. When it is cooked with Potatoes, it turns out to be a very tasty dish. It is easy to make this dish and requires very few ingredients. It is usually served as a side dish with Sambar Rice, Rasam Rice etc.

Ingredients:

Broad Beans / Avarakkai / Papdi – 200 Gms

Potato -2

Oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Urad Dal – 1 tsp

Curry Leaves – from 1 twig

Onion – 2 (Finely chopped)

Turmeric Powder – 1 pinch

Sambar Powder – 1 tsp

Grated Coconut – 3 tbsp

Salt – to suit your taste

Method:

Wash the Beans well. Cut both the ends and pull out the strings. Discard. Chop them finely. Peel the Potatoes and cut into small cubes.

Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard Seeds and allow them to crackle. Add Urad Dal. And wait for a few seconds and add the Curry Leaves. Add the finely chopped Onions. Stir fry till the Onion turns translucent.

Add the Potatoes. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes.

Add the chopped Broad Beans. Add Salt and Turmeric Powder. Mix everything together. Cover the pan and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes in low flame. There is no need to add water. Stir them in between.

Add the Sambar Powder and the grated Coconut. Mix well. Continue cooking for a couple of minutes.

Transfer to a serving bowl. Serve it warm with Rice and Sambar or Rasam etc.
