Akki roti means rice bread. It is a very popular dish for breakfast in Karnataka. But can be easily adapted into a meal for lunch or dinner. For a bite of authentic south indian cuisine that you don’t usually find in restaurants…follow the recipe below 🙂
Ingredients:
Rice flour: 1 cup
Grated coconut: 1/3 cup
Asafortida (hing): a pinch
Green chilly (chopped): 2
Moong dal (soaked): 2 tsp
Cilantro/coriander leaves chopped: 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
Oil: 2 tsp
Curd/Yogurt: 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Method:
Take all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Knead into a soft dough and leave for 10 minutes (covered with a moist cloth or tissue paper).
Take a small portion of it and roll into a roti. Use rice flour for the purpose of dusting to prevent it from sticking to surfaces.
Cook in the pan on medium heat.
Flip the roti. Apply ghee and cook on both sides until pink spots appear on the surface of the roti.
Done! Serve with masala curd and salad.
